Fortescue Inlet: Offshore Deposition Basins for Navigation Channel Management in Small Craft Inlets

چکیده
A comprehensive case study of the coastal processes for Fortescue Inlet (New Jersey, USA) is presented with objective minimizing maintenance dredging navigational channel. This compares effectiveness both traditional sedimentation control structures and modified templates, including construction a new jetty, modification length orientation an existing use upland offshore deposition basins. The alternatives were analyzed using Deflt3D Flexible Mesh. results indicate that sediment transport near dominated by wave action pronounced seasonal variations in direction. site exhibits relatively shallow depths above depth closure bars. Consequently, much occurs well (approximately 300 m offshore) beyond jetty. structural modifications (i.e., relocation or lengthening) jetty do not improve rate within Instead, basins delivers most promising improvement, potential cost savings over 10% strategies.

Establishing Criteria for Sidewall Air Inlet Performance and Evaluation of Four Commercial Inlets on This Criteria
Four commercially available sidewall air inlets and one sharp-edged rectangular opening were tested in a fullscale building section under similar isothermal conditions. Large differences were found between inlets for airjet spread, axial velocity decay, airjet throw, and entrainment ratio. A criterion was derived for evaluating inlets utilizing airjet throw, airjet spread, entrainment ratio, an...
متن کاملWater quality modelling for small river basins
Water quality modelling in small rivers is often considered unworthy from a practical and economic viewpoint. This paper shows instead that a simple model structure can be set up to describe the stationary water quality in small river basins in terms of carbon and nitrogen compounds, when the use of complex models is unfeasible. In short rivers point and nonpoint sources play a key role in shap...
متن کاملChannel-reach morphology in mountain drainage basins
A classification of channel-reach morphology in mountain drainage basins synthesizes stream morphologies into seven distinct reach types: colluvial, bedrock, and five alluvial channel types (cascade, step pool, plane bed, pool rime, and dune ripple). Coupling reach-level channel processes with the spatial arrangement of reach morphologies, their links to hillslope processes, and external forcin...
متن کاملChannel Network Scaling Laws in Submarine Basins
Fluvial drainage basin area is often related to channel length and local slope through power law relationships and the relatively small range of exponents observed in these relationships is thought to result from physical mechanisms. Proposed mechanisms assume that the observed correlation between drainage area and fluid discharge is caused by precipitation. Using high resolution DEMs of channe...
